Established in the 1920s under the
auspices of the Naugatuck Red Cross, the Visiting
Nurses Association continually seeks to serve the
residents of the Borough with up-to-date equipment
and caregiver skills through workshops, symposiums
and in-service education programs.
The Nursing Service provides the following:
- Skilled Nursing
- Physical Therapy
- Speech Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Medical Social Worker
- Home Health Aides
- Health Supervision Visits
- Referral Network
The staff includes a director/supervisor, supervisor
of clinical services, registered nurses, physical
therapists, home health aides and office personnel.
Speech therapy, occupational therapy and medical
social worker services are provided by professionals
under contract with our department.
Requests for services are honored from families,
clients, friends, private physicians, hospitals,
convalescent homes, and other institutions and
agencies.
All care is given under the direction of a
physician.
Physical, social and environmental assessments are
done at the time of admission and an individual plan
of care is initiated for each client. Close contact
is maintained with the attending physician and any
changes or concerns are promptly reported to him or
her. Family members are expected to actively
participate in the plan of care and in the actual
care of the client in the nurses' absence. Weekend
and holiday coverage is available on an "as needed"
basis.
Each client is assessed for insurance coverage and
those not eligible have a confidential financial
evaluation to arrive at visitation charges. A client
refusing a financial evaluation or physician's
supervision cannot be served.
A person in need of nursing services will not be
denied care because of inability to pay.
Current charges for other services to the public are
available by calling the department during business
hours. Free counseling and referral services may be
obtained by calling the agency for an appointment.
Coordination of other agency programs is provided as
well as referral to outside services.
Please do not hesitate to contact the Nursing
Service with any questions or concerns. We
continually seek to improve the quality of our
service and provide the most effective support to
our clients.
The prime function
of the Nursing Service is the care of the sick in
the home.
