Beekeeping at Andrew Mountain Park
Naugatuck Park & Recreation Dept. is planning a Beekeeping area at Andrew Mountain Park.
In addition to providing additional pollination to both Andrew Mtn. Park and the Community Garden, our goal is to help increase the honeybee population.
Naugatuck Park & Recreation is partnering with Peter Ferreira on this project.
Peter Ferreira is a third-generation beekeeper. He has been very active in the beekeeping industry as a beekeeper, spokesperson, and educator and is presently obtaining his Master Beekeeper Certification from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. He is currently a professional beekeeper and keeps his hives in his home apiary and other locations in Connecticut.
Additionally, we are offering classes in Beginning Beekeeping for anyone ages 12 and up.
Classes will be held at the Naugatuck Recreation Center, 607 Rubber Ave, Naugatuck on February 24, 2018 or March 3, 2018 from 9am-3pm.
Fee per session is $50. Please bring lunch and beverages as needed.
All who attend are welcome to help set up the bee hives in the spring. Please contact Naugatuck Park & Recreation at 203-720-7043 for further information and to register for the program.
