Curbside Leaf Collection
Leaves will be collected on Naugatuck resident’s regular trash day, in 30 gallon paper bags.

Leaves are also accepted year round at the Recycling Center during regular hours in 30 gallon paper bags only, No Plastic Bags.
Along with leaves, grass clippings, pine needles, hay, flowers and other soft yard waste material can be placed in the paper bags when they are brought to the Center or left for curbside collection. They will be composted and turned into a usable and high quality garden product. Garbage, bottles and cans, or other trash contaminates the leaves and causes problems when they are composting.

USA Hauling has taken over for Copes providing curbside trash & recycling collection. Naugatuck residents with questions or problems regarding their trash or recycling, missed collections, half emptied carts, and other similar questions can call USA directly at 1-860-609-4081. Naugatuck Public Works at 203-720-7071 or publicworks@naugatuck-ct.gov will continue to answer general trash and recycling questions and will continue to run the Rubber Ave. Recycling Center.
USA will be collecting Naugatuck routes using the same regulations and rules that have been in place since Automated Collections began. Residents are reminded to always have their containers curbside the night before their collection, lid arrows facing the street, keeping 3 feet between the carts, and away from cars, telephone poles, etc.

Naugatuck Recycling
The following can be recycled in Naugatuck, either curbside or at the recycling center: Corrugated cardboard, shirt, gift, and cereal type boxes, wrapping paper (non-metallic, without bows & ribbons), junk mail and office paper, newspaper, catalogs, magazines, phone books, aerosol cans, plastic bottles and containers #1 through #7 (none with chemicals or motor oil), oversized plastic objects, glass bottles, metal food & beverage cans, aluminum foil, disposable aluminum plates and trays, juice boxes and paper milk and juice cartons. All containers must be empty and rinsed clean.
In addition fluorescent light bulbs, motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, rechargeable batteries, automotive batteries, propane tanks, electronics such as cell phones, computers, radios, microwaves, and TV’s, leaves and brush are also accepted free of charge at the Rubber Ave. Recycling Center.
Always flatten boxes and remove any plastic wrap, windows, etc. Styrofoam is not acceptable so packing peanuts and foam blocks must be thrown in the trash or donated for re-use and mailing. Plastic bags are not accepted in the recycle cart but can be recycled at local grocery stores. Only shredded paper should be placed in plastic bags in the 96 gallon red cart. Plastic bags can be used to bring materials to the Recycling Center, items will first be emptied from the bag. Recycling carts will not empty completely if oversized boxes are jammed inside so flatten boxes and set loosely in the cart.
Brush, Branches & Leaves Recycling Center
Brush & Branches Naugatuck residents can bring branches and brush to the Recycle Center any Thursday or Saturday from 8 AM to 2 PM. Large trees and stumps and oversized loads of brush are not accepted. No brush accepted from contractors or businesses. Large amounts of brush and branches from land cleaning or tree removal cannot be accepted.
Leaves in paper lawn and leaf bags can be brought to the Recycling Center. Leaves and pine needles cannot be accepted in plastic bags or in barrels, only in paper bags. Special curbside collections of leaves in the paper bags take place 3 weeks in the fall and 1 week in the spring.
DO NOT place branches, leaves or grass in the gray or garnet automated curbside carts for collection.
Free Electronics Collection
The Naugatuck Recycling Center accepts electronics, year round, free of charge. Computers, Printers, TV's, Fax Machines, Microwaves, Cell Phones, and similar electronics are all accepted from residents. Materials from businesses cannot be accepted.
(Air Conditioners, Refrigerators, Dehumidifiers are not part of this free program)

Household Hazardous Waste Day
A Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Paint Collection Day is scheduled for the towns of Beacon Falls, Bethlehem, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Oxford, Southbury, Thomaston, Waterbury, Watertown, and Woodbury for:
From 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. The collection starts promptly at 8:00 A.M. There is no need to line up before 8:00 A.M.
Pending date confirmation due to COVID-19
There is no charge to residents. Proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, tax bill, or other identification, is required for entrance.
Examples of wastes that will be accepted include: oil- and latex-based paints and stains, thermometers and thermostats containing mercury, drain and oven cleaners, upholstery cleaners, wood cleaners, strippers and varnishes, pesticides, poisons, pool and photo chemicals, automotive cleaners and fluids, grease and rust solvents, aerosols, and metal polishes.
Items that will not be accepted include: No auto batteries, No motor oil, No propane tanks, No compressed gas cylinders, No asbestos, No smoke detectors, No explosives, No radioactive or medical waste, No grout, No joint compound, and No empty containers of any kind. The contractor reserves the right to reject additional materials.
Note: Motor Oil & Antifreeze are accepted at Naugatuck Recycling Center any Thursday or Saturday 8 AM to 2 PM. Also accepted at the Recycling Center are: fluorescent bulbs (all sizes), batteries (all kinds).

PAINT RECYCLING IN NAUGATUCK & CONNECTICUT
Paint Stewardship Program in Connecticut
The CT Paint Law passed in 2011 and went into effect July 1, 2013 requiring manufacturers of paint to establish a Paint Stewardship Program in Connecticut. Funding for the Program comes from an assessment fee on the sale of architectural paint sold in Connecticut.
PaintCare Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization established by the American Coatings Association to implement state-mandated paint stewardship programs on behalf of paint manufacturers in each state that adopts a paint stewardship law. Connecticut is the third state to pass such a law.

What Products are Covered?
Residents can bring any and all brands of paint to the stores listed above as long as the paint meets the following requirements. Architectural paints are defined as interior and exterior architectural coatings sold in containers of 5 gallons or less. However, they do not include aerosol products (spray cans), industrial maintenance (IM), or specialty coatings. Paint can also be brought to Borough sponsored Hazardous Waste Events.
